Fells Point is a neighborhood which is a historical jewel situated just adjacent to the heart of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Dating back from before the founding of Baltimore itself, Fells Point's rich and diverse history, coupled with it's unique business district, singular architectural features, and wonderful community of residents and business owners, makes this historic waterfront neighborhood a great place to shop, dine, play, live, and work. Who is the Fells Point Main Street:
We are a member of the Baltimore Main Streets program out of the Baltimore Development Corp. We follow the National Trust's four point Main Street approach to revitalize the historic business district of Fells Point What does Fells Point Main Street do:
We focus specifically four main areas,
- Providing programs, consultants, and advice to help businesses, both to assist existing businesses stay successful and to help recruit new businesses to the area
- Beautifying the neighborhood through programs to clean the neighborhood, increase green space and landscaping, helping businesses improve the "face" of their storefronts, and work on special projects to improve the face of our neighborhood
- Building strong strategic partnerships with other groups and agencies around our neighborhood and beyond to help us provide more assistance to our area, and create strategies which are more effective than us working alones
- Creating events and promotional campaigns which showcase our neighborhood, increase traffic and business to our neighborhood, and help to provide a source of support and funding for sustaining the efforts of Fells Point Main Street
Why Fells Point, what's so special:
Fells Point is unique in all of the world as a place which has filled such historically significant roles as; the second largest immigration point into the U.S.A., second only to Ellis Island; the original deep water and still working seaport of Baltimore; and home to a colorful history from privateers and pirates to it's almost complete destruction to make way for a highway. Fells Point's distinction as one of Baltimore's only continuously working seaports and historic neighborhood and business district situated along Baltimore's beautiful waterfront, makes this neighborhood an area which deserves focus and attention to help build it back to it's former glory. Our focus is to rebuild the business district, not just along the waterfront, but extending up into the upper reaches of the Broadway corridor and along the major arteries leading to and from Fells Point. How do we accomplish this:
Fells Point Main Street accomplishes all this by staying focused on the four point Main Street approach and working through the efforts of our all-volunteer committees. Please take a look at our "Projects" page to see the breakdown of the committees and the projects each is working on. We always need help in accomplishing our projects, so if you are looking for a place to invest some time, please consider volunteering with our organization to help grow, beautify, and build your neighborhood. |
